It was a beautiful day today so we decided to take the day and go to Tehachapi which is about 40 miles north of here.  Toured the Tehachapi Depot Museum which was very interesting.  We wanted to tour the two wineries but they only open on the weekends, so we decided to go to the Wine Cellar which is an outlet for the local wines, but it is closed on Mondays.  So then we headed for Tanlgeweed Farm, a local organic farm that has local cheeses, oils and vinegers and produce in season.  Found it easily but, alas it is closed on Monday's.  We then headed to the Tehachapi Loop, a well  known train loop that climbs 77 feet in elevation and over a 3/4 mile spiral that crosses over itself.  However, Monday is a  "work day" and very few trains come through the area although the trains are very frequent any other day.  We went anyway and it was a very pretty drive.  On the way we passed National Chavez Center where Caesar Chavez lived and worked to unite the migrant farm workers.  A very good stop and -oh happy day- it was open.  Anyway it was a very nice day even though it is not a good idea to go Tehachapi on a Monday.
